Abbas says national reconciliation real response to attempts to harm Palestinian rights

RAMALLAH, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday that the Palestinian national reconciliation is the real response to all attempts to harm the Palestinian rights guaranteed by international laws and norms.

According to a statement published on the official Palestinian News Agency, Abbas urged the Palestinian people and political factions to "focus on the coming challenges through the opportunity to achieve national unity and unity of our people and lands, which is considered the real reaction to all attempts to harm our rights as guaranteed in international laws and norms."

Abbas directed the government "to head to Gaza to work on solutions to the daily struggle" in the coastal enclave, the statement said.

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was scheduled to arrive in Gaza on Wednesday, but his trip was postponed due to political tensions there, local sources told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, an Egyptian security delegation overseeing the reconciliation process just left Gaza for the West Bank, said Mohammad Maqadmah, spokesman of the Palestinian commission of civil affairs.

Sources in Hamas movement said the Egyptian delegation will hold talks with Palestinian officials in the West Bank.

The Egyptian delegation stayed in Gaza for 10 days in order to oversee the implementation of the Palestinian reconciliation process and the empowerment of the Palestinian national unity government in Gaza. Enditem
