UN delegation arrives in DPRK

Xinhua,December 05, 2017 Adjust font size:

PYONGYANG, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- A United Nations delegation led by UN under-secretary-general for political affairs Jeffrey Feltman, arrived here Tuesday afternoon for a four-day visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The three-person UN delegation was met by low-ranking officials from the DPRK Foreign Ministry and a UN representative here at the airport.

Feltman will meet with DPRK officials to discuss "issues of mutual interest and concern," said UN officials earlier in New York.

He will also meet with the United Nations Country Team and members of the diplomatic corps, and visit UN project sites in DPRK, according to UN officials.

This is the first visit for a UN under-secretary to the DPRK since 2011.

The visit came as tensions further escalate on the Korean Peninsula following the latest ballistic missile launch by DPRK and an on-going U.S.-South Korea joint air force exercise involving hundreds of fighter jets and tens of thousands of troops. Enditem
