COLOMBO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology in its weather forecast on Monday warned its citizens to refrain from fishing and marine activities on Tuesday and Wednesday due to depression in the Bay of Bengal.
The department said the low pressure area in the South-East of Bay of Bengal was located 1,300 km away from Sri Lanka by Monday.
It said it would develop into depression and was likely to move close to Sri Lanka on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"It is expected that the wind speed can increase up to 70 to 80 km per hour in the deep and shallow sea areas around the country, 90 to 100 km per hour over the Bay of Bengal and 50 to 60 km per hour over the island," the department said.
Therefore, the department asked its citizens to refrain from fishing and marine activities in the sea around the country during these days.
Sri Lanka has been battered by inclement weather conditions recently, with 100,000 people affected and 14 people dead. Enditem
