NEW DELHI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and five others injured in a road accident in the eastern Indian state of Bihar on Monday, police said.
"The accident occurred when a car in which the victims were travelling rammed into a tree on Khagaria-Bakhri road near Pahraja in the state's Khagaria district," a police official said.
While two died on the spot, those injured have been admitted to a local hospital, he said. "The condition of one of the injured is critical," he added.
Preliminary probe has revealed that the accident occurred as the driver dozed off behind the wheels while the victims were returning home from a marriage function in a nearby village Sunday.
"An investigation has been ordered into the incident," the official said.
India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles. Enditem
