2 killed in firing outside Shia mosque in Pakistan's Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and four others injured in an apparent sectarian attack in Pakistan's capital city Islamabad on Wednesday evening, officials said.

Officials from police told Xinhua on the condition of anonymity that the incident happened when people were coming outside the Shia mosque after saying their evening prayers.

The attack was carried out in sector I-8 of Islamabad at about 6:45 p.m. (local time) by two motorbike-borne assailants, who fled the scene after the incident, he said.

"The attackers sprayed 15 rounds of bullets at the people indiscriminately, and fled the scene," the official said.

The attack left one man killed right at the spot and injured five others who were shifted to the hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where another one succumbed to injuries.

Police cordoned off the area and kicked off a search operation to apprehend the on-the-run militants.

No group or person has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Enditem
