Ukraine to promote innovation for sustainable development: PM

Xinhua,November 29, 2017 Adjust font size:

KIEV, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said Wednesday that his government will step up efforts to promote innovation for achieving sustainable development of the country.

"Through the support of innovations we should change the economic model, produce competitive products, enter the foreign markets and rebuild our homeland," Groysman was quoted as saying by the government press service.

The development of science and technology is key to transforming industry, and will help the economy to switch from a resources-dependent model, Groysman said.

Currently, Ukraine's economy is heavily reliant on raw materials, with metallurgical and agricultural products accounting for more than half of the exports.

Groysman said the Ukrainian government will next year set up a special investment fund to finance innovative projects in the transport, energy and infrastructure sectors. Enditem
