The center is China's first overseas sinology research center to be established since the start of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020).

The center is run by the China Overseas-Educated Scholars Development Foundation (COSDF) sinology institute.

Sinology research centers will be established in 11 countries including the United States, Russia, Greece and France by the end of 2020, according to the COSDF.
