British PM makes unannounced visit to Iraq

BAGHDAD, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in Baghdad unannounced on Wednesday and held talks with her Iraqi counterpart Haider al-Abadi in a bid to boost bilateral relations, Iraqi official television reported.
Abadi said during the meeting that Iraqi-British relations have made remarkable progress in various fields, especially in anti-terror cooperation, and Britain has provided significant assistance to Iraq in relocating displaced civilians, according to state-run Iraqiya channel.
For her part, May said Britain will continue to support Iraq in various fields and she expects further developments in bilateral relations.
It is May's first visit to Iraq since her inauguration in July 2016. Enditem
