Namibia intensifies circumcision drive to curb HIV

Xinhua, May 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

In efforts to combat and curb the HIV pandemic in Namibia, the Ministry of Health has embarked on a circumcision campaign during May 8-18 in the Oshana, Zambezi and Erongo Regions.

The health ministry launched the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) scale-up campaign and contracted the DOGG, a local veteran musician to support the campaign through mobilizing the community through music and entertainment.

According to the Ministry' s Permanent Secretary, Andreas Mwoombola in a statement, the VMMC procedure is a recommended strategy to combat HIV in highly affected countries, adding that evidence has shown that VMMC provides benefits to reduce the spread of HIV by 60 percent. Endit
