JSE slips on Thursday ending consecutive rally

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed weaker on Thursday ending a second-session rally.

The all share index was off 0.26 percent to 54,114 points at close, while the top 40 index was 0.31 percent softer at 47,488.45 points.

The Industrial index was 0.06 percent lower, while the resources index was 0.65 percent down. The financial index dropped 0.42 percent.

The banks dropped 1.21 percent after three consecutive days of rally.

The South Africa rand traded stronger at R13.35 against the U.S. dollar at 5:00 p.m. (CAT), which put a damper on most of the JSE's activities.

Among some shares on the JSE, Capitec lost 2.72 percent to R749. Old Mutual dropped 0.87 percent to R33.47. FirstRand tumbled 0.38 percent to R49.07.

Sasol's share price lost 0.48 percent to R408.17. BHP Billiton, also a company with interests in the oil industry, was down 0.4 percent at R202.21, while Anglo American dropped 0.16 percent to R180.38.

Shoprite gained 1.73 percent to R199.4, but Woolworths lost 2.61 percent to R70.6. Endit
