Two dead in helicopter crash in western Austria

Xinhua, May 10, 2017 Adjust font size:

Two people died in a helicopter crash in Tyrol, western Austria on Wednesday, according to local media reports.

The accident occurred in the afternoon in the Gramaialm region near the Achen Lake.

The helicopter is believed to have collided with the cable of a cable-car system before crashing to the ground where it then caught fire.

Rescue crews arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze, but both occupants were already deceased.

Their identities are still unknown, though police said the privately-owned helicopter appears to have German identification markings.

Further investigations are underway. Endit
