China-Syria economic cooperation enjoys broad prospect: official

China and Syria have great potential in economic and trade cooperation, and Chinese enterprises are ready to partner with Syrian companies in many fields, a Chinese trade official said here Wednesday.

Yin Zonghua, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said at a conference for Chinese and Syrian enterprises that the two economies are highly complementary, and Chinese businesses in Syria have benefited both sides.

Looking ahead, Yin said the two countries have broad cooperative potential in many fields such as infrastructure construction, oil and gas exploitation, food and light industry.

More than 100 Chinese enterprises attended the conference and expressed strong interests in cooperation with Syria.

Yin said he expects that more Chinese enterprises to make investment and seek cooperation in Syria, and to make contributions to the reconstruction and development of the country.

Bilateral trade volume between China and Syria increased rapidly from 170 million U.S. dollars in 2000 to 2.48 billion U.S. dollars in 2010. Endi
