Visiting Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sarraj, held talks on Tuesday with Algerian Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal, regarding the Libyan peace process developments.
The meeting is part of Algeria's efforts to further a consensual political solution in Libya, according to a statement issued by the prime minister's office.
Sellal reassured his Libyan guest that Algeria will maintain its support toward Libya in its struggle for peace, added the source.
Al-Serraj's visit comes following Libya's neighbouring countries' 11th ministerial meeting held in Algiers on Monday.
"My visit to Algiers is part of the ongoing political consultations between Algeria and Libya, as I'm due to discuss several issues with Algerian officials," al-Seraj told reporters in Algiers International Airport.
"I would like to salute the efforts exerted by Algeria to boost the Libyan peace process," he added.
On Monday, Algeria hosted Libya's neighboring nations' 11th ministerial meeting, urging Libyan opposing parliament to stick to the political peace agreement reached in December 2015 in Morocco.
Participants also reiterated their rejection of any military intervention in this chaos-ridden nation.
The meeting gathered representatives from Libya's six neighboring nations, namely Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Egypt, in addition to representatives from the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League and the European Union.
Libyan central figures reached a shaky peace accord following UN-sponsored talks held in Morocco on Dec. 17, 2015, in an attempt to end over six years of civil war.
Both a national unity government and a cabinet were established, headed by Prime Minister Fayez al-Seraj, whose top mission is uniting Libya's opposing parliament in order to stand united in their fight against the Islamic State militants.
Currently, Libya has two rival parliaments, the House of Representatives which is the internationally recognized one, based in the eastern port city of Tobruk, and the General National Congress parliament, based in the capital city of Tripoli. Endit
