More chances offered for Tunisian students to study in China

Tunisia and China will have more cooperation on higher education at the level of government and academies, said on Tuesday Tunisian Minister of High Education and Scientific Research Slim Khalbous during the opening ceremony of China Campus 2017 in Tunis.

Khalbous praised China's efforts on higher education development and the academic cooperation between China and Tunisia, saying "Tunisia expects and welcomes more Chinese students to study here."

Altogether 22 Chinese famous universities and colleges, including Peking University and Wuhan University, took part in this event, which is the biggest education exhibition of China in Tunisia, said Liu Jinghui, the Secretary-General of China Scholarship Council (CSC).

According to Liu, over 440,000 international students studied and lived in China in 2016, over 340 of them coming from Tunisia. She wished China Campus 2017 could offer a platform for Tunisian students to know about Chinese universities and to have more opportunities for studies in China.

Chaima Ayadi, a college sophomore, showed her interests in Chinese universities and said "Chinese culture looks fascinating and I wish I could have a chance to go to China for studies."

Zhang Xiumei, working with Peking University in the international cooperation, said "I was impressed by the enthusiasm and the interest of Tunisian students."

She said Peking University was open for the best Tunisian students and would offer scholarships for those who meet up with the conditions.

"The education cooperation is an important part of Sino-Tunisian relations," concluded Bian Yanhua, Chinese ambassador to Tunisia, adding China Campus 2017 could help the academies of two countries for further cooperation. Endit
