A senior official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday congratulated centrist Emmanuel Macron on his election as the French president.

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, sent a congratulatory message expressing belief that the development of relations between the DPRK and France would meet the common interests of the two peoples, according to a report of the Korean Central News Agency.

In the message, Kim also wished the president-elect success in his efforts for France's development and prosperity, said the report.

The DPRK does not have diplomatic relations with France, but has a representative office to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris.

Macron won a landslide victory in the runoff of the French presidential election on Sunday, beating his rival Marine Le Pen. Endi
