Hong Kong stocks closed up 311.12 points, or 1.27 percent, to 24,889.03 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,548.97 and 24,889.83. Turnover totaled 71.05 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 9.13 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as investors opted to secure gains following the market's sharp rise Monday and on concern of overheating amid a lack of fresh trading cues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 52.70 points, or 0.26 percent, from Monday to finish at 19,843.00.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 12.99 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 3,249.97.

A total of 2.22 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.36 billion Singapore dollars (968.07 million U.S. dollars). Decliners outnumbered gainers 235 to 222.

MUMBAI -- The Indian markets closed flat with positive note Tuesday.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 29,933.25, 7.10 points or 0.02 percent up compared to its previous close at 29,926.15.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 5,511 points, down 18.45 points from Sunday's finish.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Tuesday moved down 7.71 points or 0.49 percent to close at 1,560.31 points.

Some 9.31 billion shares worth 43.20 billion baht (about 1.27 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,766.56, down 1.59 points or 0.09 percent, and the Emas was at 12,645.36, down 7.43 points or 0.06 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 90.37 points on Tuesday, up 1.24 points or 1.39 percent against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 722.11 points on Tuesday, up 3.25 points, or 0.45 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

SYDNEY -- The Australian market ended lower on Tuesday, with the banking sector taking a dive ahead of tonight's federal budget announcement, due 19:30 (AEST).

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index fell 31.0 point or 0.53 percent at 5,839.90, while the broader All Ordinaries index lost 23.3 points or 0.40 percent at 5.839.90.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 1.72 points, or 0.51 percent, to close at 341.47.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 10.80 points or 0.19 percent to a level of 5,697.05 on Tuesday.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Tuesday up 2.44 percent compared to the previous trading day.
