The prime ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland met here Monday to discuss regional security, energy community, transport connections and the future of the European Union.

Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said: "Together we can shape the decisions regarding our future, both on the level of the European Union as well as NATO."

On energy security, Ratas said that it is important to have clarity as quickly as possible on how to proceed with the synchronization of the electrical power systems of the Baltic countries and Europe.

He also termed Rail Baltic as "the most important transport connection project of our region in history" to create the foundation for the continuation of economic growth in the Baltic states as well as in Poland and Finland.

Ratas and Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis, Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, as well as Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo also called for EU unity in speech and in action, especially against the backdrop of Britain's exit from the EU.

Ratas said the priorities of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union starting in July would be "to aid the building of a Europe with an open and innovative economy, keep Europe secure, promote digital solutions and the free movement of data, and ensure that the activity of the European Union is inclusive and sustainable."
