Taiwan's exports in April rose 9.4 percent year on year, the seventh consecutive month of increase, according to the island's finance authority Monday.
April's exports reached 24.3 billion U.S. dollars, driven by demand for integrated circuits, machinery, rising raw material prices, and a lower base last year.
For the first four months, Taiwan's exports registered a yearly increase of 13.6 percent, the highest in almost six years.
Taiwan's exports to southeast Asia rose 14.1 percent year on year in April, followed by the mainland and Hong Kong with an increase of 10.3 percent.
Modest expansion of the global economy and trade will help lift Taiwan's exports in the next few months, but uncertainties in economic policy and foreign exchange rates, the transition in the mainland's economy and competition might hamper exports, the authority said. Endi
