Morocco, Spain bust IS-linked cell

Xinhua, May 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

Moroccan and Spanish security forces have arrested three people suspected of recruiting and sending fighters to the Islamic State (IS) group, the Moroccan Interior Ministry announced Monday.

In a joint operation, two people were arrested in Spain, while their partner was caught in the northern city of Tangier, the ministry said in a statement.

It revealed that the cell members were in contact with IS leaders in Syria and Iraq, adding that they were active in recruiting fighters for the terror group.

The arrested person in Morocco will be brought before court after the public prosecutor's office completes its investigation, the statement added.

According to official figures, Morocco busted 19 terrorist cells and arrested 273 suspects in 2016, most of them linked to the IS group. Enditem
