-- The Zambian government said it will be able to save about 500 million U.S. dollars which it spends on electricity subsidies annually thanks to the new proposed electricity tariffs.

Minister of Energy David Mabumba said increasing electricity tariffs was an inevitable emergency for the country to attract investment, grow the economy and create employment opportunities. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- The Zambian government recently managed to raise 52 million U.S. dollars in a single day following participation of a huge number of foreign investors on the local bond market, the country's finance minister has said.

Felix Mutati said such a development was a testimony to the rising confidence of the global community in the measures taken by the government to stabilize and grow the economy in an inclusive manner. (Daily Nation)

-- Zambia is this week hosting the 8th Africa Transportation Technology Transfer conference aimed at promoting technology transfer for developing sustainable transportation systems in Africa.

The conference, to be held from May 8 to 10 in the southern city of Livingstone under the theme "Linking Africa through Sustainable Transport Infrastructure Development," will also discuss the promotion of the establishment and operations of Technology Transfer Centers as means for facilitating appropriate effective transfer.
