IS radio smashed, 34 militants killed in E. Afghan province

Xinhua, May 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

The propaganda station of Islamic State (IS) group has been destroyed and 34 insurgents killed as Afghan government forces pounded the hardliner outfit's hideouts in the eastern Nangarhar province over the past 24 hours, said a statement of Interior Ministry released here on Monday.

"Up to 34 IS terrorists have been killed and their propaganda machine, a radio station, destroyed after the government forces targeted the terrorist group positions in Naziyan and Achin districts over the past 24 hours," the statement said.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces would continue to target the terrorists elsewhere in the country, said the statement.

Nangarhar province, 120 km east of Kabul, has been the scene of IS activities over the past two years.

The U.S. forces in Afghanistan on Monday confirmed that the top leader of the IS group in Afghanistan Sheikh Abdul Hasib was killed during a joint operation in eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on April 27. Enditem
