Spain's industrial production rose by 9 percent in March year on year from a year ago, according to the Index of Industrial Production (IPI) published on Friday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

That represented the biggest monthly increase since April of 2008, when the economic crisis began to drag down the country's industrial production.

Production of consumer goods rose by 10.6 percent in March year-on-year with production of durable consumer goods increasing by 27.1 percent and that of non-durable consumer goods rising by 9.3 percent.

Production of capital goods rose by 12.5 percent and production of intermediate goods also increased by 12.5 percent, while production of energy fell by 4.3 percent in March year-on-year.

On the other hand, the INE also reported that industrial production fell by 0.4 percent from February to March with production of energy decreasing by 3.1 percent and that of intermediate goods dropping by 0.2 percent.

Production of durable consumer goods rose by 1.9 percent on a month-to-month basis, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.5 percent and that of capital goods rose by 0.2 percent. Endit
