Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, May 3

Chinese stocks closed lower Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.27 percent to end the day at 3,135.35 points.

The smaller Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.39 percent lower at 10,184.14 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, ended 0.56 percent lower to close at 1,840.45 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday closed unchanged at 1,564.12 points.

Some 5.95 billion shares worth 32.53 billion baht (about 950 million U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,778.47 down 5.96 points or 0.34 percent, and the Emas was at 12,670.01 down 40.29 points or 0.32 percent.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed marginally lower Wednesday.

Benchmark indices remained sluggish among consolidation as investors awaited the outcome of two-day Federal Reserve policy meeting due later this day.

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 26.7 points, or 0.83 percent, to close at 3,237.81.

The STI index gained 35.67 points, or 1.12 percent, to close at 3,211.11 on Tuesday.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday down 0.04 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 0.38 points to reach 1,025.45 points after closing.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 89.82 points on Wednesday, up 0.29 points or 0.32 percent against the previous trading session.

A total of over 48.916 million shares worth some 511.031 billion Vietnamese dong (some 22.6 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 8.7 percent in volume and 10.2 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 719.54 points on Wednesday, up 1.81 points, or 0.25 percent, against last Friday's closing session.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 684.99 points, up 4.5 points, or 0.66 percent. Endit
