Local investors' vibrant trading raise Nairobi bourse turnover

Equity turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange rose by 39 percent Friday to 6.5 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 20 million shares helped by increased local investors' trading.

On Thursday, some 21 million shares worth 4.7 million dollars were traded at the bourse in a session stifled by low foreign trading.

During the Friday session, local investors' participation stood at 52 percent against the foreigners at 48 percent. This was a major rise from the local's 19 percent Thursday.

Equity Bank was the top traded stock with 8.6 million shares at 0.33 dollars, a decline of 2.2 percent as Kenya Commercial Bank retained the second spot with 2.1 million shares at 0.31 dollars.

At the third position was Kenol Kobil which moved 2 million shares at 0.12 dollars while Safaricom came fourth with 1.6 million shares at 0.19 dollars, a high of 1.6 percent.

The NSE 25 Share Index stood at 3,515.17 from 3,534.49. The bond market had securities worth 17 million dollars transacted, a drop from 21 million dollars posted in the previous session. Endit
