At least 13 people including four women and five girls were killed on Friday after a boat capsized in a river in southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, officials said.

Meanwhile, One person was reported missing.

The boat capsized in the evening in a stream at Guntakal in Anantapuramu district, 431 km southwest of Amaravati, the main city in Andhra Pradesh.

"This evening, a small boat carrying people capsized here in Guntakal, killing 13 people," Anand, an official who only gave his first name, told Xinhua via telephone.

"Thirteen bodies have been fished out and one is missing."

According to officials, two people have been rescued and are undergoing treatment at hospital.

The news about the boat capsizal have spread in the area. Local villagers and police rushed to the spot to carry out rescue, police said.

In February, at least 10 people were killed and several others injured after a fibre boat carrying them capsized in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Endit
