Albania unemployment rate drops to 15.2 pct in 2016

Albania's unemployment rate fell to the level of 15.2 percent in 2016, with the number of employed estimated at around 1.37 million, Albania's Institute of Statistics, INSTAT, said Friday.

Meanwhile, data showed that the number of unemployed amounted to around 208,000 persons, of which 41 percent are female and 59 percent male.

The employment rate for the population aged 15-64 years old is 55.9 pct, while that for female stands at 49.7 pct and for male 61.9 pct. The gender gap in employment for this age-group is 12.2 percentage points, INSTAT said in its labor force survey.

According to INSTAT, the unemployment rate among men was around 1.5 percentage points higher than among women in 2016 while the overall unemployment rate dropped by 1.9 percentage points over 2015.

Labor Force Survey findings also showed that unemployment rate among the population aged 15-29 years old stood at 28.9 pct.

The unemployment among youth has dropped by 4.3 percentage points compared with the previous year.

The agricultural and services sectors have the highest share of employed with 40.2 percent and 40.4 percent of the total employment respectively. Endit
