2nd LD Writethru: Man shot at leg by police in hospital in Berlin

Xinhua, April 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

A man was shot and injured at leg by police outside a hospital in a neighborhood in the German capital, police said on Thursday.

The hospital alerted the police after a mentally ill person got rampaging. The person, who had attacked the police, had probably been armed, German media Welt cited its police source as reporting.

One police officer was then forced to fire the shot in order to put the man out of action, the report said.

"It was still unclear whether one or more police officers had fired," a spokeswoman was cited by Welt.

At the moment, there were no details on the reasons for the firing of the shot and the exact location of the incident, according to the spokeswoman.

Gunshots have been heard earlier around the hospital, which has led to the sealing off the area. Endit
