Tokyo stocks retreat on profit taking after market's solid run

Tokyo stocks retreated Thursday morning as investors took profits following the market's recent run of gains and ahead of the outcome of the central bank's policy meeting later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 45.67 points, or 0.24 percent, from Wednesday to 19,243.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.37 points, or 0.09 percent, to 1,536.04.

Securities, electric power and gas, and mining-related issues comprised the morning's most notable decliners. Endit
