Copa Libertadores: Robinho equals Pele mark

Xinhua, April 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

Robinho equalled Pele's record as the highest scoring Brazilian in the Copa Libertadores by helping Atletico Mineiro to a 2-0 home victory over Libertad on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old capitalized on neat build-up play by his former national teammate Fred before lashing an unstoppable shot past Rodrigo Monoz.

Juan Cazares made it 2-0 in the 89th minute when he bundled in an opportunistic shot after a goal-line scramble.

Robinho has now scored 17 goals in South America's top club competition, 13 with Santos and four with Atletico Mineiro.

"I think the entire team should be congratulated," the former Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan winger said.

"I don't like to praise myself too much. I know that I have to get better with every match and I am. That's why goals will come naturally." Enditem
