A primary school in western Norway has created a rule prohibiting pupils from having smartwatches in the classroom, public broadcaster NRK reported Tuesday.
According to the principal of the school, children would lose concentration as a result of the smartwatches.
"If a child receives a message or is called, the child is disturbed and the disturbance rapidly spreads to other students," Per F. Songstad of Krohnengen school in Bergen was quoted as saying.
He said that the same rule that applied to students answering cellular phones in classrooms should be applied to the use of smartwatches.
The school reached the prohibition decision with students, employees, and the parent council's work committee, NRK wrote.
Another school director in the southern city of Kristiansand would like to prohibit schoolchildren from having smartwatches in classrooms.
However, in this case, the reason is fear that parents and guardians would "monitor the education" in classrooms, NRK wrote. Endit
