China urges Indonesia to ensure safety of personnel on seized vessel

Xinhua, April 25, 2017 Adjust font size:

China Tuesday called on Indonesia to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel on a vessel recently seized by Indonesia.

"The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia has contacted the Indonesian side in this regard," said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang at a daily press briefing.

He said the Chuan Hong 68, a Chinese vessel hired by a Malaysian marine-engineering company, was undertaking engineering operations in areas designated by the Malaysian company when it was seized by an Indonesian maritime patrol ship on April 20 in sea off Tarempa, Indonesia.

"We hope Indonesia will consult with the Malaysian company to solve any issues," said Geng.

Geng said that China hopes Indonesia will ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese personnel onboard. Endi
