Xinhua summary of Asia Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, April 21

Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.03 percent, at 3,173.15 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.43 percent lower at 10,314.35 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.62 percent to close at 1,839.01 points.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 69.16 points, or 1.24 percent, to a level of 5,664.47 on Friday.

Some 245,963 transaction were booked, involving 10.3 billion copies of share with a total value of 8.8 trillion rupiah (660.3 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- The Indian stock market closed flat with negative note on Friday.

The market reversed its morning gains and slipped into the red zone, driven by a drag in index heavyweights.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index moved up 3.74 points, or 0.24 percent, to close at 1,570.02 points on Friday.

Some 8.31 billion shares worth 38.08 billion baht (1.11 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,756.05, up 14.44 points or 0.82 percent, and the Emas was at 12,490.58, up 92.31 points or 0.74 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks finished higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 1.95 points, or 0.06 percent, to close at 3,139.83.

The STI index gained 11.6 points, or 0.37 percent, to close at 3,137.88 on Thursday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 88.87 points on Friday, up 0.41 points, or 0.46 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of over 65.155 million shares worth some 844.323 billion Vietnamese dong (some 37.36 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday, an increase of 26.99 percent in volume and 69.53 percent in value against the previous closing session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 14.96 points, or 0.06 percent, to 24,042.02 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,991.87 and 24,190.14.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 712.41 points on Friday, down 0.25 points, or 0.04 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 672.6 points, down 1.7 points, or 0.25 percent.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as investor sentiment was bolstered by remarks by of the U.S. Treasury secretary about unveiling a tax reform plan with a softer yen adding to a buoyant mood.

Electric power and gas, rubber product and marine transportation-linked stocks advanced the most by the close of play, and advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 1,645 to 288 on the First Section.

SYDNEY -- The Australian market ended the week higher on Friday, with more stability in base metal prices driving the index.

At the close of trade the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 32.70 points or 0.56 percent at 5,854.10, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 31.20 points or 0.53 percent at 5,885.60.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 3.84 points, or 1.11 percent, to close at 341.92.
