Indian court jails 2 IS recruiters for 7 years

A special court on Friday held two Indian nationals guilty of working as Islamic State (IS) recruiters and sentenced them to seven years in jail, in the first of such conviction in the country.
The court handed down the punishment to 24-year-old Azhar-ul-Islam from Indian-controlled Kashmir and 25-year-old Mohammed Farhan Shaikh from the western state of Maharashtra after the duo pleaded guilty to conspiring to raise funds and recruiting people for IS.
The court gave them lesser punishment after the two recently told the court, through their defense lawyer, that they "are remorseful of the acts alleged against them."
"There is no prior criminal record against them and they want to join the mainstream and want to be productive for the society and want to rehabilitate themselves. They are pleading guilty without any pressure, threat, coercion or undue influence," their lawyer M.S. Khan told the court.
The two, along with another suspect, were charged with criminal conspiracy after the country's anti-terror National Investigation Agency (NIA) registered a case against them in January 2015. Endit
