Police detain suspects of 3.5-mln-USD robbery case in Japan

Xinhua, April 20, 2017 Adjust font size:

Police detained several suspects on Thursday night over an alleged robbery case worth 384 million yen (3.5 million U.S. dollars) that occurred earlier in the day in Fukuoka, western Japan.

The male suspects, including one believed to be South Korean national, were found carrying a large sum of cash and were apparently trying to leave the country before they were taken into custody, said the police.

However, the suspects did not match the witness accounts of the robbery case and the banknotes they possessed were different from the amount robbed, local media quoted police sources as saying.

A 29-year-old company employee called the police earlier in the day, claiming that he had been robbed after withdrawing cash from a bank in downtown Fukuoka.

Three people were believed to be involved in the robbery, with two wearing white masks and attacking the man and the third one waiting in a white van, according to witnesses.

All the three fled the scene in the van.

Local police have set up a 155-member task force to investigate the case. Endit
