China sets rules to supervise state compensation
Xinhua, April 20, 2017 Adjust font size:
China's top court issued a set of new rules on handling appeals to state compensation decisions.
The rules cover the scope and procedures of the supervision on state compensation, and provide guarantees of the right of appeal, according to a press release from the Supreme People's Court (SPC).
The SPC statement said that it was quite common for applicants to appeal decisions on state compensation repeatedly, which was a waste of judicial resources.
The high appeal rate in such cases requires new rules to be put in place, it added.
Under Chinese law, wrongfully imprisoned or detained individuals should be compensated for each day they are deprived of their freedom, in addition to their physical and psychological damage.
The rules will enter into effect on May 1. Endi
