Serbia cooperates with UNDP to advance energy efficiency

Xinhua, April 20, 2017 Adjust font size:

Serbia's energy ministry and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) awarded around 700,000 U.S. dollars on Thursday to 13 local Serbian governments to advance energy efficiency of public buildings.

The Serbian state granted 25 million dinars (217,800 U.S. dollars) while 500,000 U.S. dollars came from the UNDP's Global Environment Facility (GEF) Program.

The joint project for energy management systems in municipalities throughout Serbia was signed between Serbian energy minister Aleksandar Antic and representatives of the local self-governments at UNDP in Belgrade.

A public call for projects was announced by the energy ministry in October. A joint commission selected projects, favoring those that reduced CO2 emissions, according to a press release from UNDP's Serbia office.

The total grant value of the joint project between the Serbian energy ministry and UNDP is 2.5 million U.S. dollars.

"The purpose of the project is to increase investments in energy efficiency in public buildings and public utility services, as well as to improve their energy and cost efficiency through professional management," UNDP stated. Endit
