German police arrests three suspects in Lower Saxony

Three suspects were arrested in Germany's northwestern state of Lower Saxony, local media Focus Online reported on Friday.

The three suspects were a 27-year-old Turkish, an Afghan of the same age, and a 25-year-old German. Special police task force were deployed in Northeim to make the capture operation.

Local prosecutor said they were plotting "serious state-threatening violence", reportedly some bomb attacks on policemen or soldiers.

Germany has been on high alert after the Tuesday bomb attack on the Bundesliga football team Borussia Dortmund, which injured one of its players. The investigation is still going on and police have been tightening security in various cities.

On Thursday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on states to work in close relations with the federal governments to ensure safety for German citizens. Endit
