Iran's incumbent President Hassan Rouhani registered for the upcoming Iranian presidential election on Friday and defended the performance of his administration over the past four years.

Following the registration, Rouhani hailed the Iranian international nuclear deal, known as JCPOA, as his administration's achievements, saying that "from now on, protecting the nuclear deal would be one of the important issues (for the next government) politically and economically." KABUL -- At least 36 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed after the U.S. forces in Afghanistan struck their position with a large bomb in eastern Nangarhar province, the Afghan Defense Ministry said Friday.

More than 1,900 IS militants, several Afghan security forces and two U.S. soldiers have been killed in Achin and neighboring district since 2015, according to Afghan military officials. (Afghanistan-US-IS)

ISLAMABAD -- At least nine hardcore militants and three troops were killed during an exchange of firing between the insurgents and the forces in Pakistan's east Punjab province on Friday.

The ongoing offensives of the Pakistani army are the continuation of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad (elimination of discord), which was kicked off on Feb. 22 to eliminate terrorists and their hideouts from the country.(Pakistan-Killing)

JERUSALEM -- A British student was killed and two Israelis were injured in a "terror" attack carried out by a knife-wielding Palestinian in Jerusalem's light rail on Friday noon, Israeli officials said.

The woman casualty, identified by police spokeswoman Luba Samri as a 25-year-old tourist and a student from England, was stabbed by a 57-year-old Palestinian passenger in the light rail. The attack came amidst the Jewish holiday of Passover. It also came amidst a spate of violence that broke out in September 2015.(Israel-Britain-Killing)

PYONGYANG -- The military of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday warned of "toughest counteraction" in response to what it called "reckless miliary provocation" by the Trump administration.
