Macao's chief executive pledges to safeguard national security

Xinhua, April 14, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Chief Executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chui Sai On sworn Friday to continue to safeguard national security, unity and territorial integrity.

Chui made the remarks on the eve of marking the second anniversary of the National Security Education Day, which falls on April 15 each year for raising awareness of national security among the public.

National security is closely related to our daily lives, and given the current unfortunate incidents in international community, the regional security is of vital importance for the Macao citizens, Chui said in a speech to the public.

As the stability of Macao relies on national security, we should work together to safeguard both of them, he added.

Chui also reiterated that Macao should stick to the "one country, two systems" principle, and "one country" should be the basis and prerequisite of "two systems."

He noted that as Macao is an integral part of China, and the Macao Special Administrative Region is under the direct leadership of the central government with high degree of autonomy, it should shoulder its responsibility to safeguard national security in accordance with law.

The Macao SAR government will continue to deepen education on the Constitution, and the Basic Law of Macao, and to promote the tradition of love to the country and Macao, so as to raise awareness about the national security among the public, Chui said. Endit
