Chief minister of southern Indian state to become porter for 2 days

Xinhua, April 13, 2017 Adjust font size:

Believe it or not, the Chief Minister of the southern Indian state of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao will work as a porter for two days, starting Friday, and will be available for hire on daily wages.

According to media reports, the chief minister has ordered that all ministers, lawmakers and members of his regional Telangana Rashtriya Samiti will have to raise funds to attend their party's convention by working as coolies for at least two days.

By working as porters, the party leaders and members are expected to earn enough to pay for travel and food expenses to attend the meeting at Warangal, considered the heartland of the state, next Friday, the reports said.

The Telangana chief minister is known as a superstitious politician.

In February, he, along with his family members, ministers and officials, offered gold ornaments worth millions to a temple in Andhra Pradesh to fulfil the vow he had taken during the movement for a separate Telangana state.

And last year, he had ordered the razing of a government complex and building a new one at an estimated cost of 3.5 billion rupees (52 million U.S. dollars) as he believes the building was unlucky for the state. Endit
