Shanghai loses, Jiangsu wins in AFC Champions League

Xinhua, April 11, 2017 Adjust font size:

Shanghai SIPG of China suffered a l-0 loss to Urawa Red Diamond of Japan after missing two penalties while Jiangsu Suning secured a 3-0 victory over Gamba Osaka in the group matches of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Rafael Silva proved himself to be the talisman of Red Diamonds with a pinpoint effort into the bottom corner of the net in the 43rd minute.

Despite the absence of injured Hulk, Shanghai launched waves of fierce attacks after the break and was awarded two penalties. Yet, Oscar missed the first in the 65th minute and his second spot kick was denied by the goalie 11 minutes later.

However, the prospect for Shanghai to qualify for the knockout round remains bright enough as it tied with Red Diamonds for the top spot in Group F with nine points each, and only needs one more point from two remaining games.

In another AFC clash between China and Japan, Jiangsu has already qualified from Group H after winning its fourth straight victory through goals from Teixeira, Ramires and Hong Jeong-ho. Endit
