Safaricom's resurgence lifts Kenya's bourse

Some 15 million shares valued at 3.5 million U.S. dollars were traded at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Tuesday, up from 11 million shares worth 2.6 million dollars boosted by a resurgent Safaricom.

The leading telecom rose 1 percent to clock a high of 0.19 dollars as it moved 5.6 million shares, up from 2 million shares exchanged in the previous session at 0.18 dollars.

Kenya Commercial Bank moved 2.2 million shares at 0.33 dollars to end the day as the second top traded stock while Sasini came in third with 2.1 million shares after going up 8 percent to 0.27 dollars.

Kenya Power traded 1.6 million shares at 0.06 dollars to stand at the fourth position while Barclays Bank moved 792,400 shares at 0.07 dollars.

The benchmark NSE 20 Share Index was up 11.83 points to stand at 3,104.43 while the All Share Index (NASI) ended 0.15 points higher to settle at 133.45. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Share Index was down 14.57 points to stand at 3,507.54. Endit
