On Monday, various celebrations and commemorative events were held in Poland marking the seventh anniversary of a fatal plane crash in Smolensk, Russia.

A call of honor was held on Monday morning in front of the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, attended by Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, brother of the deceased president.

Szydlo and Kaczynski lit candles and laid flowers at a symbolic grave of president Lech Kaczynski and his wife at the Stare Powazki cemetery in Warsaw.

Polish President Andrzej Duda paid a visit the tomb of the presidential couple in the southern city of Krakow. The president said April 10 was a day to reflect and to remember "all those who are no longer with us."

The Polish air force plane was heading to Russia to take part in events commemorating Polish victims of Katyn executions in 1940, but tragically crashed in the city of Smolensk on April 10, 2010. More than 90 high officials and crew died in the crash. Endit
