Spain's housing sales increase by 1.2 pct in February

Spanish housing sales rose by 1.2 percent in February when compared with the same month of a year earlier, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Monday.

A total of 35,610 operations were registered in the second month of the year, with sales of second-hand houses increasing by 6.1 percent in February year-on-year to 29,171 and sales of new houses falling by 16.3 percent year-on-year to 6,439 purchases.

According to the INE, 89.3 percent of the purchases were of non-subsidized houses in February whose sales rose by 1.5 percent to 31,807 operations. On the other hand, purchases of subsidized houses represented 10.7 percent of the total in February, with sales falling by 0.7 percent to 3,803 operations.

Spain's housing sales have been rising for 13 consecutive months on a year-on-year basis.

The INE also reported that housing sales fell by 7.4 percent from January to February. Enditem
