Ukraine's central bank Governor Valeria Gontareva announced on Monday that she will step down on May 10, because her reform "mission is complete."
"First, the country has moved to a flexible exchange rate and implemented the new monetary policy of inflation targeting. Secondly, the banking system has been cleansed of insolvent banks, and its future resilience strengthened," she said.
In addition, she said in a statement: "the National Bank (of Ukraine, the central bank) has been completely transformed, all the processes have been reset and today our central bank is a strong modern organization."
She said she has already submitted an official resignation letter to President Petro Poroshenko.
Gontareva also voiced her hope that there will be no changes in the central bank's policy after her resignation.
Gontareva, 52, was appointed as Ukraine's central bank chief in June 2014. Before the appointment, she had served as top manager in private financial institutions and investment banks. Endi
