Unemployment, corruption fears dominate in Spain: survey

Xinhua, April 6, 2017 Adjust font size:

Unemployment is still the main source of worry for the majority of Spaniards, according to the monthly barometer of public opinion published by the Spanish Center for Sociological Investigation (CIS) on Thursday.

The study, carried out in March, shows that despite falling levels of unemployment, 72.3 percent of the over 2,800 people asked said they were worried about the issue, slightly up from the 72.2 percent who gave the same reply in February.

Corruption was seen as a problem by 44.8 percent of those asked, a big increase from the 33.8 percent in January and 37.3 percent in February.

Despite worries about unemployment, there is a small rise in optimism over the economy with only 22 percent saying the current situation worried them.

Only 4.4 percent of Spanish considered the current economic situation to be good, while 38.5 percent consider it bad and 22.2 percent as "very bad." A total of 54.2 percent consider the situation to be the same as a year ago. Endit
