U.S. stocks open lower ahead of Fed speeches

U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday as investors were awaiting the closely-watched Federal Reserve officials' speeches.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 37.74 points, or 0.18 percent, to 20,663.76. The S&P 500 decreased 3.97 points, or 0.17 percent, to 2,354.60. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 1.76 points, or 0.03 percent, to 5,873.38.

A host of Fed policymakers, including Chicago Fed president Charles Evans and his Boston and San Francisco counterparts, Eric Rosengren and John Williams, all due to speak at separate events on Wednesday.

They were expected to give out more hints about the pace of the Fed's future rate-hikes.

On Tuesday, U.S. stocks reversed early losses to end higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial snapping an eight-day losing streak, as investors digested a batch of positive economic reports. Endi
