JSE closes in red on Monday

Xinhua, February 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) tumbled on Monday in line with global markets.

The JSE's all-share index was off 0.22 percent to 51,497.16 points at close of the session.

Bucking the trend, the resource 10 index regained after last week's biggest weekly percentage drop in nearly a year.

Iron-ore stocks were notable gainers as the underlying price regained 2 percent to 92.33 U.S. dollars a tonne, but gold miners sold off materially despite a relatively stable gold price and the rand.

Banks were slightly weaker as financial stocks lost 0.66 percent and industrials lost 0.46 percent.

Petrochemical company Sasol was up 1.25 percent to R375. Endit
