Turkish ambassador to Libya meets with minister of transport

Xinhua, February 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

Turkish ambassador to Libya Ahmet Aydin Dogan met on Thursday with UN-backed government's Minister of Transport Milad Ma'tug in Tripoli.

The two officials discussed cooperation in the field of civil aviation and resuming flights between Libya and Turkey.

The Libyan official said a technical team from the Turkish airlines visited M'etiga airport and checked its capabilities to operate flights that would be resumed in late March.

The Turkish ambassador said the discussions included the returning of Turkish transport companies to complete suspended projects in Libya.

Turkey announced in late January that its embassy in Tripoli will be reopened after more than two years of closure due to violence when rival armed groups fought for control in the capital Tripoli.

The Turkish ambassador, like most foreign missions and diplomats, has been based in neighboring Tunisia since the embassy's evacuation.

The North African country has been suffering a security vacuum and chaos since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011. Endit
