French joblessness rate slightly down in Q4: Insee

The jobless rate in France was down by one percentage point to 9.7 percent during the last quarter of 2016 compared to the third quarter, official data showed on Thursday.

According to the National Statistics Institute Insee, 2.8 million people were reported jobless in France's mainland over the last three months of the previous year.

With the overseas departments taken into account, the quarterly jobless rate stood at 10 percent, down by 0.1 percentage point.

Unemployment among young people aged from 15 to 24 fell by 1.7 percent while the figure for those aged 25 to 49 rose by 0.2 percent, according to the report.

From October to December 2016, the joblessness rate for women decreased by 0.3 percentage point to 9.5 percent and was stable at 9.8 percent for men. Endit
